Backyard Flora

A bougeonvia bush in the back yard of an historic home under renovation in our neighborhood. It is huge for a bush. Pretty to look at, but the thorns on these things are murder.

O my! That's quite the colorful flower!

What does this smell like? Can it grow in say a, minnesota type climate (freezing winters, hot hot summers). And can it be grown near lilacs?

(rubs hands together, narrows eyes ... perhaps this could be part of my future yard . . . ;)

I love bougeonvia - My mom always has some growing in her garden.
